The only way to effectively use these terms in the limited context of this essay is for the author to clearly articulate his use of some generally accepted lexical meaning and carefully indicate when there are deviations from that standard. The thoughts and practices of these pioneers could guide the escape from today’s darkness. They withdrew, coalesced around the remaining spark of truth in order to remember, preserve, and reignite. History shows us that the very movements that are today abdicating responsibility were once spiritual survivors themselves.
